Backyard Frontier is a comic strip about a boy and his alien and their adventures as they try to make sense of this crazy world. Come back every weekday to see what they keep getting themselves into!
Well, it’s been over two months of Backyard Frontier! Unfortunately circumstances suggest that it would be a good idea for me to focus my attention on my freelance graphic design and web design work, which means that I won’t be able to post daily comics for a while.
I’d still love to have everyone’s feedback and everyone who’s subscribed to email alerts or to the RSS feed will continue to receive updates when I am able to post new comics. I’d like to say that I’ll post a few a week, or once a week, or so, but at this point I just can’t tell.
I’m happy to announce that I’ve just added some products featuring Backyard Frontier designs. You can find them in the “Store” section in the menu at the top of this page. Here are a couple of samples of what you’ll find:
In addition to these, there are colored shirts; shirts for men, women and kids; mugs and even hats!
I’m looking forward to adding more in the near future. If anyone has any feedback or suggestions of what they’d like to see—whether it’s a fresh idea or something that you saw in the strip that you like—be sure to let me know!
Anyone planning a last minute Halloween party and need a game? A couple years ago I created this “Pin the Tail on the Werewolf” game for a party my daughter was having at our house.
Click on the links above to download a PDF file of the Werewolf and a separate file for the Tails. It’s formatted at 8.5″ x 11″, but I’m sure Kinko’s would print it bigger for you if you said the magic word.
It’s been a long time since I’ve watched the show Alf, but when it was on TV in the late 1980s, it was a favorite of mine. Since I’ve started a comic that has some slight similarities to the general concept, I thought I’d offer some full disclosure and share with everyone something that has provided just a bit of inspiration for the comic that I’m now doing.
So sit back and enjoy!
I wasn’t aware when I was first developing my strip how many influences I may have picked up from Alf, so since I found the entire series online at Hulu.com, I’ve been watching them again. Even though it’s kind of a cheesy 80s TV show, I still find it hilarious. I think it’s better to be informed about similar things so I don’t accidentally copy, don’t you?
To be fair, some of the other inspirations for the general storyline of my comic are the movies E.T. and The Iron Giant and a healthy (or unhealthy) dose of my own adolescent experience.
